What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key', is a Japanese form of therapy that aims to increase energy levels and promote relaxation and wellbeing. Developed in the late 19th century, Reiki is applied through non-invasive, non-manipulative gentle touch.

The underlying philosophy of Reiki is that if a person's energy is low, they are more likely to be unwell or stressed. If it is high, however, they are more capable of being happy and feeling well. Reiki will not cure illnesses or disease, but it may help your body to feel more relaxed and peaceful.

During a Reiki session, the client will lay on a warm infrared heating pad that has natural Jade and Tourmaline Stones throughout. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or over the client's body, typically for around three minutes per position. The whole treatment can take around 60 minutes.

A Reiki experience can vary from person to person, but some common aspects include:

• Relaxation

Many people find Reiki to be comforting and relaxing, and some fall asleep during the session.

• Stress relief

Reiki is often associated with an immediate release of stress. Reiki may help improve your mood and sense of well-being and help reduce pain and tension throughout the body.

• Sensations

Some feel a warm, tingling, or gentle waves of energy flowing through your body. Some experience deep relaxation, and a sense of peace, or emotional release.

• Other benefits

Reiki may help you become more self-aware and develop a deeper understanding of your emotions and thoughts. Some people report other benefits, such as improved digestion, better sleep, and a sense of being more centered.

• Cumulative effects

Reiki is cumulative, so people who don't notice much the first time usually have deeper experiences if they continue.

About April, Our Reiki Master

Another passion of our hair stylist April outside of hairstyling, has been working with energy healing through Reiki.

April is a certified Reiki Master and has completed all 3 Reiki courses in 2017 at Alta View Wellness center in Harrisburg with Kate Pruiett RMT (Registered Massage Therapist), CEH (Certified Energy Healer), CCH (Certified Crystal Healer).

April has also completed additional educational Reiki shares (when a group of Reiki practitioners work on each other to better their healing skills) at Alta View, and completed other various Reiki shares with horses & other animals who've needed healing.

April is very excited to offer Reiki services along with hair services at Elle Salon!
